ABOUT RIEF

The Research Institute in Economics and Finance (RIEF) is a private non-profit research center. RIEF serves as a hub for cutting-edge research across different areas of economics and finance. In addition, RIEF brings researchers from the international academic community to foster novel insights into the most challenging economic and financial problems across countries.

In 2019, along with the National University of Engineering, we started the Summer School in Economics and Finance (SSEF) with two goals. The first is to connect Peruvian (and Latin American) students with those we have had the opportunity to study abroad in a Ph.D.program in Economics or Finance. The second is to transfer frontier knowledge in our field to these students.

Since the beginning of the program in 2019, the quality of students has been increasing over time. In the SSEF 2021, we realized that we have many students with deep knowledge of economics and finance theory and techniques. However, in the SSEF, we had little room for research due to time constraints. At that moment, we thought: why do we not create a center for research where professors and students can collaborate?

RIEF was the answer to this question! Currently, RIEF not only supports the SSEF but also supports several research initiatives. RIEF is a hub of cutting-edge research that joins students and professors across countries. The RIEF aims to provide novel insights into economics and finance’s main issues in Latin America and other regions based on rigorous research.
